The Power of Rest: Why Taking a Day Off Makes You Stronger

I Thought More Work = More Success. I Was Wrong.
A few years ago, I was stuck in a cycle I thought was normal—pushing myself to the limit, cramming work into every available hour, and wearing my exhaustion like a badge of honor. I believed that the harder I worked, the more successful I’d be.
But instead of progress, I found myself constantly drained. My focus slipped, my motivation dipped, and even though I was doing more, I wasn’t actually getting more done.
Then, I learned something that changed everything: rest isn’t a waste of time—it’s a multiplier.
And I wasn’t the first to realize it. God Himself set this pattern from the very beginning.
"And on the seventh day God finished His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy..." — Genesis 2:2-3
Think about that—God, the Creator of the universe, didn’t need rest, but He chose it. And not only that, He called it holy.
Yet, here we are, acting like stopping is weakness.
Why Resting One Day a Week Makes You More Productive
If you’re a high achiever, the idea of taking a full day off might feel impossible. But here’s what science says: rest isn’t just good for you—it’s essential for peak performance.
Studies confirm what God already established:
1. Rest Improves Mental Focus & Decision-Making
Pushing through exhaustion actually lowers productivity. Research shows that mental fatigue leads to poor decision-making, slower problem-solving, and increased mistakes. Taking one day off allows your brain to recover, improving clarity, creativity, and strategic thinking.

2. Your Body Heals and Strengthens During Rest
Non-stop stress spikes cortisol, weakens your immune system, and slows recovery. Professional athletes follow structured rest days to prevent burnout and injury. Your body needs the same to repair and function at its best.

3. Less Work = More Energy & Productivity
Ever notice how after a vacation, you feel sharper and more energized? That’s because working non-stop drains your reserves, while rest refuels you. A well-rested mind and body work smarter, not harder.

4. Rest Strengthens Relationships & Spiritual Connection
Taking a true Sabbath isn’t just about stopping work—it’s about reconnecting with what matters: God, family, and yourself. When you step away from constant busyness, you create space to be present, hear from God, and strengthen relationships.
The Real Reason We Struggle to Rest
Let’s be real. Many of us don’t avoid rest because we can’t take time off—we avoid it because we don’t trust it.
What if I fall behind?
What if my business slows down?
What if people think I’m lazy?
But taking a real Sabbath is an act of faith. It’s saying:
"God, I trust that my worth isn’t in my work. I trust that when I rest, You are still moving on my behalf."
And guess what? When you align with God’s rhythm, He multiplies your results.
Challenge: Take One Full Day Off This Week
Here’s my challenge to you: Take one full day this week to completely unplug.
No work. No emails. No “just checking one thing.” Spend time with God.
Be present with your family. Let your mind and body recharge.
You’ll be amazed at what happens. More clarity. More energy. More peace.
Because the world says, “Grind harder.”
But God says, “Come to Me, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
